Meet Karen, Registered Social Worker
Hello, I'm Karen Ykema, a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).
With more than 20 years of frontline experience, I have had the privilege of supporting youth, adults, and families through some of life's most challenging moments. My professional background includes mental health, addictions, housing, youth services, crisis intervention, and community social work. I hold a Child and Youth Worker diploma, an Honours Bachelor of Social Work degree, and I am currently completing my Master of Social Work through Wilfrid Laurier University.
My approach to counselling is warm, collaborative, and client-centred. I believe everyone deserves a safe, welcoming space where they feel heard, respected, and accepted—without judgment or pressure. Together, we'll explore your experiences, build on your strengths, and develop practical strategies to help you navigate life's challenges with confidence and hope.
I recognize that every person's journey is unique, which is why I tailor my approach to meet your individual needs, goals, and experiences. Whether you're navigating anxiety, stress, grief, relationship challenges, substance use, life transitions, or simply feeling overwhelmed, my goal is to provide compassionate support while helping you move toward the life you want.
When I'm not working, you'll often find me enjoying the outdoors, spending time fishing, or making memories with my family. Living and working in a rural community has reinforced my appreciation for connection, balance, and the importance of having a place where people feel comfortable simply being themselves.
Seeking support takes courage, and you don't have to face life's challenges alone. It would be a privilege to walk alongside you, offering a compassionate ear, practical support, and a steady presence as you move toward healing, growth, and wellness.
I look forward to meeting you.
